Whereas California community colleges have been making only limited progress toward the goal of achieving staff and faculty diversity, and

Whereas the Chancellor's Office, in conjunction with the Association of Chief Human Resources Officers, has composed technical assistance teams, whose purpose is to instruct local campuses on diversity hiring procedures and best practices, and

Whereas these teams have been relatively inactive and have had little or no faculty representation, and

Whereas the California community colleges are currently engaged in extensive hiring activities, presenting an unparalleled opportunity to make major strides toward our diversity hiring goals,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community College surge the Chancellor's Office to reconstitute its Diversity Hiring Technical Assistance teams to include substantial faculty representation as appointed by the Academic Senate, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate urge the Chancellor's Office to proceed on the assumption that all campuses would profit, in the wake of Proposition 209, from a renewed emphasis on diversity hiring procedures and best practices, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate urge the Chancellor's Office to work with the Academic Senate to initiate an aggressive program of local diversity hiring training, sending the Diversity Hiring Technical Assistance teams on as many visits to local campuses as logistics permit.
